Meet the Artist
|
Mary Oudeman was born in 1963, in Glendale, Ca and raised in the San Fernando Valley. At the tender age of 5, she had the first public exhibit of her art in Burbank, CA. This was a sign of things to come.
All through her school career Mary showed a great love of Art, and explored every medium. At the age of 16, Mary sold her first piece of Art at a showing.
At the age of 17, Mary was taken on as an apprentice by Robert Smith Stained Glass Studio, in Chatsworth, Ca. While there, she worked on commission jobs, and perfected her craft. She was involved in all aspects of stained glass, from design, to production, to installation.
Mary began college in 1982. Her course of study included Figure Drawing, Painting, Graphic Art, Interior Design, Ceramics, and Jewelry Design. Her concentration major of Art History sparked Mary's love of historic stained glass restoration. To date, Mary is one of only a handful of qualified, stained glass restoration artists in California; a skill which was called upon quite extensively after the Northridge earthquake.
From 1983, Mary began accepting private commissions, restoration work, and design consultations. She taught beginning and advanced Stained Glass classes at Learning Tree University, in Canoga Park and Pierce Community College, in Woodland Hills, CA.
Mary has worked extensively for the entertainment industry. Projects include Paramount Studios: set pieces for Star Trek - Next Generation; Disney: commissioned Disney characters for corporate gifts; HBO "Tales from the Crypt": unique set pieces; and many Hollywood and Beverly Hills private residences. Her clients include many celebrities and industry executives.
In 1990, Mary began to exhibit her artwork at the Renaissance Pleasure Faires in Northern and Southern California, where she was named Master Artist on two occasions, and recognized with many awards, and media attention. Mary has made guest appearances at the Arizona Renaissance Festival, and Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach, CA.
In 1994, Mary and her family relocated to Northern California, and opened Oudeman Art Glass Studio. Her public art can be seen currently at the Kelseyville Prebyterian Church in Kelseyville, CA and Brassfield Estate Winery and Vineyard in Clearlake Oaks, CA.
